Session 1: Getting to grips with equitable and responsible research: An introduction to the Valuing Voices principles
Modern research requires a holistic approach. Engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration and environmental sustainability have all become significant factors in the drive towards a more effective and interconnected research culture. The Valuing Voices tool will empower you to embed these and other ways of working into your research practice, helping you to shape the future of equitable and responsible research.
In this session, we will define equitable and responsible research through five principles which have been co-developed with colleagues at the University of York and Mahidol University in Thailand. Alongside examples of the principles in action from our living lab, there will be opportunities to reflect on what the principles mean for your own practice and career development and how you can use our online tool to plan your research. See the attached flyer for more information.
Date: Wednesday, 4 February 2026

CUHK members are invited to join the next webinar in a series focused on mental health, led by a collaboration of WUN member university researchers. The webinar is titled ‘Exploring the Social Roots of Suicide and Self-Harm’.
This webinar series seeks to work differently to traditional webinars with speakers providing a provocation to an overarching tension inherent in mental health research followed by collaborative group discussions. We are delighted to welcome three speakers:
- Tharindi Udalagama, The University of Edinburgh: ‘Researcher Wellbeing in Suicide Prevention Research in Sri Lanka’
- Ben Gregory, University of Leeds: ‘Suicide and Place: understanding the connection between local area and suicidality’
- Elisha Joshi, University of Bristol: ‘Provincial trends and patterns of suicide in Nepal’
In addition to the presentations, the webinar will feature Q&A sessions with the speakers and breakout room discussions to connect and share perspectives across attendees.
Date: Wednesday, 10 December 2025

Prof. Phoenix Mo of the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care and Prof. Mei-chun Cheung of the Department of Social Work took part in the WUN Symposium on New Research Directions in Global Mental Health held at the University of Leeds in the UK during 12-13 June 2024 and spoke on digital mental health and the mental health of adolescents, respectively. The 2-day programme featured 41 oral presentations, a poster session, three participatory workshops, and six keynote talks. It attracted some 75 participants from 14 countries, including researchers from 14 WUN member universities.

Conferences & Meetings Organised by CUHK
Led by Prof. Kelvin Tsoi of the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, the project titled ‘Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) Data Science Network/Cross-disciplinary Collaboration Forum for Digital Health Research’ aims to explore cross-disciplinary research in digital health. In late August 2024, the project team, including researchers from WUN members Maastricht University, University of Leeds, and University of Southampton, along with those from The University of Sydney, The University of British Columbia, and the University of Reading, met in Hong Kong and took part in a series of events.

These included a breakfast session ‘AI Chatbots: Friend or Foe’ and a lunch session ‘Conclusive Recommendations for Using AI Chatbots: Interdisciplinary Panel Discussion’ held at the International Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare organised by BMJ, a British publisher of medical journals, and a seminar titled ‘Digital Health: An Opportunity for AI in Healthcare’ held at CUHK. All events focused on the latest advancements and applications of AI and other technologies in areas such as health management, health systems, elderly care, dementia detection, and clinical diagnosis. Participants gained valuable insights into cutting-edge research, innovative applications, and the challenges and opportunities in this rapidly evolving field.

CUHK will organise the Workshop on Practice of Smart Cities and Implications for Urban Planning and Design on 11 April 2022 at 2:30pm-4:30pm (HK time). Supported by WUN and the Urban Studies Programme at CUHK, the workshop will feature five speakers from industry and academia who will share their works and experiences in smart cities planning and design in different regions, including Japan, India, and China.
The workshop is open to the public. Registration is required.
