The following programmes are calling for applications:

Supporting Research Community Training Grants

The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is calling for applications for its Supporting Research Community Training Grants which support staff at ACU member universities, including CUHK, to organise and deliver training for their early and/or mid-career researchers including doctoral candidates. The training must take place between August 2026 and 31 July 2027. A total of five grants will be offered, with a maximum amount of GBP 2,000 each. 
 
Eligibility
CUHK staff who leads on providing training for early- and/or mid-career researchers can apply. Applicants can define an early/mid-career researcher by the internal criteria of their faculty/department/unit.
 
Requirements of the training
  • Doctoral candidates must be included in the training, which must also be made available to early- and/or mid-career researchers from multiple disciplines.
  • One output from the training must be made available to be shared with other ACU member universities.
  • Applicants are strongly encouraged to make the training available to other ACU member universities if possible.
  • Applications for funding existing training courses will not be considered.

  • Public engagement and communicating with non-academic audiences
  • Media training
  • Social media
  • Relationship/stakeholder management

  • Research data management
  • Career training, including doctoral careers outside higher education

ACU Gender Grants

The ACU Gender Grants are awarded annually to ACU member universities, including CUHK, to support initiatives that will boost gender equity and equality on campus. Five grants of up to GBP 2,000 will be awarded for each project. The grants can be used for a diverse range of projects, workshops, and events in areas such as:

  • Supporting women in leadership
  • Raising awareness of sexual harassment and developing anti-sexual harassment initiatives
  • Supporting women in science and research
  • Creating effective institutional policies
  • Mainstreaming gender equity into the curriculum
  • To help meet the costs of organising projects that promote gender equity and equality

Interested applicants should first register for a MyACU account and log in the system to access the grant application form. Application should be submitted with the required information by Friday, 8 May, 2026 (23:00 HKT). CUHK – HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network Joint Fund

CUHK launches a new joint fund with the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network (HUN-REN) to support collaborative research initiatives that will lead to longer-term, larger-scale, and impactful collaborations.

HUN-REN, the lead administrative and coordinating body of Hungary’s national research network, is a special-status legal entity established to carry out public tasks in scientific research and innovation in the STEM and life science domains, primarily through its 15 research centres and institutes and over 100 research groups.

Up to five projects will be supported in this call. Each successful application will receive up to HKD 75,000 from CUHK and HUF 3,200,000 from HUN-REN for a total of approximately HKD 150,000. Proposals may include targeted research support such as the organization of thematically targeted joint events, symposia, workshops, seminars, lectures and presentations, and data collection.

Priority will be given to proposals in areas of interest as defined by CUHK and HUN-REN from time to time. For this inaugural round, proposals in the following areas are invited:

a) Biomedical and Health Sciences: neuroscience, precision medicine, preventive health, longevity, early diagnostics, biomedical engineering, and cell and molecular biology.
b) Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems: sustainable AI (systems, engineering, machine learning) and smart manufacturing.
c) Energy research: advanced battery and energy-storage technologies, renewable energy systems, grid integration and energy-management systems, circular material recovery and recycling for clean-energy infrastructure, sustainable materials, and decarbonization.

Proposals in other fields with good sustainability prospects are also welcome. Each project should be interdisciplinary with team members from different disciplines.
